Are you feeling creatively stunted and deeply sad about the state of the world? Join the Midwives of Invention for a collective co-writing session where we’ll focus on imagination and possibility.

In January we gathered on the eve of the inauguration and raised thousands of dollars for abortion funds. We finished that session feeling a renewed sense of purpose and connection, and we knew we had to bring back Pen to Power. December 2nd was the perfect time. It’s Giving Tuesday—let’s give to anti-ICE mutual aid groups!

We’ll be joined by writers Justinian Huang and Thomas Page McBee!

Our goals for this evening are simple and monumental: Stay creative, and stay connected.

Instead of despairing alone, spend some time in (online) community with a group of fellow writers and turn your rage into words on the page. Think of it as a keyboard danceathon!

We will be joined by a few writer friends, and begin with some brief thoughts on a question we’ve all been asking ourselves: What is the point of making art when it feels like the world is falling apart? Then, Ann and Jade will offer a few prompts you can use to tap into your imaginative power, and we will all write together.

Creativity and community are the way forward. We’re excited to write with you—and raise some money for a good cause while we’re at it.

Duration: 1.5 hours

Suggested Donation: $20, though you are welcome to give more. If you are eager to join but $20 is too steep, just give what you can. No writer will be turned away.

How/Where to Donate: We ask that you give directly to a mutual aid group in a city occupied by ICE. You can donate to one of our suggestions below, or to a similar group in your own community. Once you’ve made your donation, please 1) Screenshot your donation, and 2) Fill out the form below.
